Let’s get this straight – choosing an accommodation for a holiday is far more complex than it seems. Especially when you are travelling with the family or with kids. Everyone has different needs and everyone’s wishes need to be fulfilled. That could pretty much spell disaster for the one in charge of choosing and booking the hotel. Believe me, I know what that feels like because I’m always the one searching for accommodation for all our trips. So for our most recent trip to Malaysia, when we decided to spend a couple of days in Kuala Lumpur, I had to quickly look for a family hotel in KL that would be reasonably priced without compromising on comforts. My search for where to stay in Kuala Lumpur with family obviously yielded a million results but one distinctly stood out for me – Oakwood Hotel & Residence.

About Oakwood Hotel & Residence – Best family hotel in Kuala Lumpur
Our plan was to spend 3 days in Kuala Lumpur and after looking through Oakwood’s website and reviews, we decided to go for it. As the name suggests, Oakwood Hotel & Residence in Kuala Lumpur provide both hotel rooms as well as serviced apartments. The apartment style accommodation comes with a living space and one or two bedrooms, perfect for staying with family or even for a bachelor or couple for a longer duration. The hotel rooms are great if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay for a few days.
We were supposed to put up in a Deluxe Room, but on our arrival, we were upgraded to a One Bedroom Deluxe Apartment, much to our delight! Oakwood Hotel and Residence Kuala Lumpur was everything we could possibly ask for in a holiday rental property and in this article, I’m going to let you in on all the reasons why this is one of the best places to stay in Kuala Lumpur with your family.

Our one bedroom apartment had everything needed to make us feel at home and then some! The spacious unit had a big living room just as we entered, with a part of it converted into an open kitchenette. The kitchen was fully equipped with a microwave oven, a rice cooker and an electric tea/coffee maker. In addition to that, a cute little dining table with 2 chairs sat on one side to complete the setup – ideal for a quick meal. The living space was both comfortable and luxurious. Plush couches, a center table with a basket of fresh fruits and a flat-screen television – perfect recipe for a laid-back holiday! But before we slid into the sofa and got any lazier, we went ahead to check out the rest of the apartment.
The large bedroom with ample natural light and clean white sheets on the king-sized bed looked refreshing. On one side of the bedroom was a built-in wooden closet and few other necessary items – an iron, an ironing board and bathrobes. The closet area led to a huge bathroom which I have to admit was one of my favourite things about our apartment at Oakwood! Fitted with a luxurious bathtub and a rain shower, the bathroom was not only bigger than average, it also became our go-to place at the end of a long day in the sun.
If our compact and neatly decorated apartment told us one thing, it was that this property by Oakwood would make for one of the best places to stay in Kuala Lumpur with family, especially if you have kids and are planning an extended stay.
Services & amenities
For us, a hotel is truly defined by its service mentality and the staff’s hospitality, more so in a serviced apartment like this. The staff at Oakwood were not only very welcoming, they also took care of us in the best manner possible. Starting from arranging seats on their in-house shuttle service in the last minute to small gestures like sending over as many bottles of drinking water as we needed throughout the day, we felt thoroughly pampered at Oakwood!
One glance at this property, and you’ll know how massive it is! So it is bound to have all the basic amenities one needs to have a comfortable stay. We always look out for a gym, a swimming pool and laundry services and Oakwood had all 3 in place! In fact, the swimming pool was located in a spacious area behind the in-house restaurant and lounge, which obviously meant free flow of drinks during swim sessions! 😀
But apart from the usuals, we really appreciated that they had a free shuttle service available for guests at specific times during the day. Even though the property was located very close to the city centre, having access to a shuttle made it easier to get to important landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, especially if we were unable to find a cab.
Location – Best area to stay in Kuala Lumpur
Oakwood Hotel & Residence Kuala Lumpur is located in a prime area in the city. Easily accessible from the main attractions in KL but still cut off from the madding crowd of the city centre. Just to give you a sense of how conveniently located this property is, here are few of the most visited spots in KL and the average time to reach there from Oakwood:
- Oakwood to Petronas Twin Towers – 10 minutes
- Oakwood to Bukit Bintang – 15 minutes
- Oakwood to Merdeka Square – 15 minutes
- Oakwood to Batu Caves – 18 minutes
This is one of the key reasons why we chose to stay here during our trip to Kuala Lumpur.
Even if you don’t plan on having every meal at the hotel you are staying at, especially in a city like KL with so many eating out options, we definitely like a hotel which serves good breakfast. Who doesn’t love having a filling breakfast before heading out for the day? And Oakwood’s breakfast at its in-house Treats restaurant was all things amazing! The restaurant itself was very spacious and opened out to an alfresco pool-side lounge.
The buffet had everything you’d need to fuel up your morning and comprised of both local as well as international breakfast items. Local dishes included the iconic Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rendang, Paranthas (flatbread), Dal (lentil curry) etc. The international food section had everything ranging from a selection of bakery items, cold cuts, a variety of eggs, fresh fruits & juices, tea/coffee. We even got a chocolate milkshake made to order!
Value for money
Room rates at the Oakwood Hotel & Residence start from approximately INR 3500 (USD 55) a night. For all that you get at that price, this is one of the most value for money accommodations we have found in KL, or anywhere else for that matter. Comfortable and luxurious accommodation, excellent service staff and prime location – this property is all about providing the best value for guests and ensuring a pleasant stay.
